OUT is a great fashion/entertainment mag
It's true. OUT is a fashion and entertainment magazine (not news), and it's written mostly for gay men--but because that's also mostly who buys it. But the magazine has gotten more diverse. There's definitely lesbian content in every issue, and there's more multiracial and transgender content than ever before, too (and more than in most LGBT publications). The idea that one magazine should be everything to the entire LGBT community is ridiculous--it's impossible. But at least OUT is head-and-shoulders above INSTINCT and GENRE in terms of story depth, intellect, and inclusiveness. Buy it for the writing, the opinions. The beefcake is just bonus!
Pancake Deep
OUT is a glossy "trends, news, and personalities" magazine targeted to the gay and lesbian community, and it is everything the word "glossy" implies. The articles are celebrity-oriented and written in a bright tone. The photography makes every one look attractive and (if at all possible) sexy. And everything about it strives to be hip and sophistocated. But "strives" is the operative word. In fact, OUT is remarkably superficial.
The deepest thing about OUT seems to be the make-up used by its writers in their byline photos: every one is very bright and shiny in a bi-coastal clone sort of way. The articles, if possible, have even less depth than that; you're unlikely to remember one five minutes after you finish it. Ultimately, the best thing I can say for OUT is that it is completely inoffensive. If your taste runs to the absolutely mild, you may find OUT useful as nap-time reading--but my household will not be renewing the subscription.
OUT has NO content
What's in OUT magazine? A whole lot of nothing, that's what! The "articles," if you want to call them that, are a waste of time. The models are the same-old, same-old. Why does this magazine even exist? I can't wait for my subscription to run out, so the vacuousness can end.
