Vogue is in a league of its own
As Vogue documents the hottest looks from the world's best designers, the entire fashion industry holds its breath in anticipation- then scrambles to interpret what Vogue dictates: the magazine is that influential. If you're looking for good, practical advice on cosmetics or picking the right style swimsuit for your body type, you're better off with Glamour or Marie Claire. What you'll find in Vogue is not really "practical" but rather high falutin', haute couture kind of stuff. Compared to other popular women's magazines, what distinguishes Vogue from the rest is how it successfully situates the fashion/beauty business as a vital, viable and artistic component of culture and society. So you're not just getting fashion layouts to look at, but also great articles on writers, architects, actors, art exhibits, and so on. Most everything pictured in Vogue is of course, out of the average person's price range, and the overall magazine's tone makes no apologies for this snobbery. But I still think it's a beautiful magazine to look at for its artistic vision, and for well-written articles on culture.
A True fashion magazine
As you flip through the glossy pages of Vogue, you'll find it full of pictures and articles about this season's catwalk, collage of pictures of beautiful new york socialites or other glamorous fashion people from such places as Paris, Milan, London, etc. Vogue is one of the only magazines you'll find that truly focues soley on fashion. And of course that means only designer items with extremely high prices, but that's what makes Vogue a true fashion magazine. It will not have one of those sections where they show you clothings with cheaper prices that are "supposed" to look like designer clothings. Vogue defintely has great articles and they are absolutely fun to read. I've been reading this magazine for a few years and it has never dissapointed me. Its cover is always gorgeous with beautiful models like Maggie Rizer, Gisele, Carmen Kass, etc and actresses like Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, etc. And the articles and photos inside are even better. If you're looking for some serious fashion, I think Vogue is definitely the right choice.
A good magazine but not like it used to be
Gosh how I yearn for the days when supermodels were splashed on the cover of "Vogue" magazine. I dont think I have an issue from within the past few years that a real model (and I dont mean Kate Hudson, Reese Witherspoon or Jennifer Aniston) has graced the covers for at least two consecutive months. I suppose this is Hollywood's answer to models becoming actresses that now the actresses are becoming models. Sorry but even though I think Nicole Kidman is a wonderful actress with a model figure, give me Gisele or Karolina any day of the week.
