It's still good, but it comes in second
I still think that Teen People is a good magazine for teens. The December-January issue isn't the greatest, and I don't approve of it at all, but the past issues have all been AMAZING!! One important thing to mention about Teen People, besides that it's made by the company who makes People, is that sometimes Teen People will have these "double issues." The December-January issue is a double issue. For this double issue, it talks about the hot celebrities of 2003. The normal Teen People issue covers areas such as-
Opinion section- This is just like any other magazine, where readers discuss the previous issue. Usually the comments are about the major stories. I appreciate the fact that the editor doesn't comment on the readers' comments.
Celebrities-There's always one or two short interviews, and then there's a much longer interview with the featured celebrity. There's also the Star Track section, with photos of celebrities doing stuff. Another celebrity-related section is their most embarrasing moments.
Trendspotters-I like this section. This section is dedicated to readers of Teen People sharing their favorite shopping and recreation activites in their area, what they like or dislike, and their artwork. Every issue has two pages dedicated to this section. Sometimes, however, there's a little booklet.
Fashion/Beauty-I could care less about this section, especially the beauty part of it, but what it's about is Trendspotters talking about their favorite eyeshadow or make-up and why they like it. Sometimes, a professional make-up person talks about make-up. The fashion section is a little better; it just shows people wearing the new, "in" clothing. I like how they feature girls of all sizes and colors, so nobody feels left-out. The only problem is that a lot of those clothes are for the rich people only; shirts are NOT supposed to cost $48.
Real life- There have been some inspiring real life stories in past issues. Usually for real life, they feature two stories, one short and one long. As said above, some of the stories are inspiring and make people think, but the problem is, some stories are annoying and pointless. For instance, there was a story about rich teens and in the current issue, a story about a teen who meets all these celebs thanks to her mom's job. Another thing included in real life is the debate, which I enjoy reading.
The other stuff-Just like any other teen magazine, Teen People has quizzes, puzzles, such as crosswords, and embarrassing moments.
Why is Teen People second? Teen People is still a good, fun magazine for teens, and I still enjoy reading it, but there's a much better magazine out there, called Teen Voices. I recommend people who read Teen People to also pick up an issue of Teen Voices and compare.
A pretty good teen magazine
"Teen People", targeted to ages 13 and up, features articles mainly focusing on celebrities, beauty, fashion, along with occasional real-life stories about real teens, and what's going on in the world around us. However, I did come across several annoying parts of the magazine, which include:
- Too many advertisements: Basically, there's an ad on every other page, and about 12 in the front of the magazine. I wouldn't mind if they didn't have so many ads in the magazine.
- Short Articles: Many articles are just 1-3 pages long, while many other teen magazines have much longer articles. Whenever I finish a Teen People article, I'm thinking "That's it? I want to read more!"
-Doesn't focus much on real-life issues: Like I said earlier, this magazine does have some stories about real teens and news of what's going on, but not too much. If you're looking for magazines that feature more real-life stories and issues, I suggest getting something else.
Anyway, I would say that TeenPeople is a pretty good magazine, especially if you're obsessed with reading about the latest trends and celebrities. Other good teen magazines include "CosmoGIRL!", "YM", "Seventeen", and "Teen".
Teen People has gotten a lot better!
Before 2004, I used to think that Teen People was way too much celebrity-obsessed and had too many advertisements, but it seems like the editors and writers have been making a change for the better. Teen People is now a magazine that many teenagers, will enjoy and like to read. It covers many topics, from the latest celebrity news and pictures to real-life stories.
Teen People's articles have been getting longer and more complex, which I think is a nice thing especially for those who like to read a lot. They are no longer limited to 1 or 2 pages, now many of them are at least 3 or 4. Teen People features articles about celebrities, the latest fashion and beauty trends, real-life stories, guy advice, and more. It's a great magazine for those who love reading about celebrities and their latest doings, because like it's parent magazine People, Teen People covers these topics a lot but equally balances the other topics along with it. Additionally, Teen People has fun stuff like quizzes, games, embarrasing moments stories, and more.
I would recommend Teen People for any teen who is looking for a good, easy-to-read magazine with a little bit of a bigger emphasis on celebrities. It's a wonderful and age-appropriate magazine for anyone ages around 12 or 13 and up.
