Finally! Man stuff without the smut!

A guy can't walk through the magazine aisle at the department or grocery store without being visually bombarded with sensual images of airbrushed models screaming "TOP TEN SEX SECRETS!" or some similarly tantilizing headline. With great gratitude I can thank New Man Magazine for allowing me to leave the eye-popping magazine racks behind.

New Man is a magazine geared for men, but with a twist. The twist is, everything is focused with a lens of moral clarity, in essence allowing guys to be guys but helping them to also improve their lives and become better men. It has most of the same features as other men's mags including a monthly fitness column, interviews with successful/admirable men, and even sex tips (for use in marriage). You won't find a "Top Ten Places To Pick Up Women" list here. Instead, New Man would offer "Top Ten Ways To Wow Your Wife".

The articles are written with a great deal of self-examining humor. While a number of other men's publications deal solely in fantasy, New Man presents articles with a healthy dose of reality. Every issue has at least one article where I find myself saying, "Man, I've gotta do THAT!" They've also got features on tech stuff, adventure experiences, new toys and gadgets, tips on personal accountability, and the ever popular "what the heck is my wife thinking" articles (often penned by women!). Don't think you have to be married to enjoy this magazine, though. There are lots of articles that will appeal to guys in general, regardless of age or relationship status.

If you're looking for a well-designed magazine that can feed your need for guy stuff but you won't feel like you have to hide it from your wife/girlfriend/mom, this could be your new favorite mag.

Good Stuff

People new to this magazine might be put off by some of the articles. However, this is a magazine about Christian men and their issues. A recommendation is to read "Old Man, New Man" by Stephen Strang. The issue is full of helpful content, so coming out every two months is not so bad. However, some of the doctrinal issues are pushed rather heavily, not all of which I agree with (mostly charismatic issues). On the other hand, the chest-thumping is very minor and downplayed for other activities, which is good. Some of the bandwagon mentality remains, but there is much helpful advice (we do not want to throw out the baby with the bathwater). There are articles from some very good and respected writers, as well "classics" from quite a while ago that still remains true today. All in all, a magazine worth checking out for Christian men.

Excellent

A Sincere attempt at the exploration of the issues that current Christian men face in the Final Days. It is encouraging and uplifting when challenges appear or light reading is needed. Of course, the Inspired Word of Our Lord is THE guide for all our life and practice, but I feel that this is a valuable adjunct to any persons' reading repertoire, (since it does share Christian tenets). However, it is indeed geared toward men. Healthy and fruitful. Amen.
