I can't do without my WEEK
A wonderful fun and witty review of "all you need to know about everything that matters". A friend gave me an issue last year and I can't seem to put it down once I get my copy in the mail. With news and opinions from the worlds best magazines, newspapers and internet sites written in a very succinct yet witty way, this magazine is the best subscription I have ever bought. Just last week The Week told me all I needed to know about what the opinion leaders in the Washington Post, New York Times, Le Monde and London's Guardian had to say about the State of the Union address yet also had a review of the Top 3 Michael Crichton fan sites on the Web...extrordinary. Try a couple of issues...I promise you, you'll be hooked too!
Move over Time and Newsweek!
Wonderful digest of weekly events, news, and cultural/human interest topics!
Multiple viewpoints are presented although the bias is somewhat liberal. I especially like the summaries of opinions from media in other countries. The maps with the world highlights are unique and useful to the geographically challenged (as most Americans are). There is even a weekly photo of a Beautiful Person with accompanying tidbit and a short column called "I read it in the tabloids so it must be true" which highlights some good fodder for your next lunch with the gang. There is a real-estate page with expensive homes of a specific type (different each week) and a house labelled "steal of the week." Travel, cooking, recommended tv shows, films, books, art, a famous-person obituary: something for everyone and everything (well, kind of) for anyone who wants a broad overview of our planet and its current state of affairs.
In other words, this is a readable digest of world news and fun-facts to know and tell.
The Week is a Real Pleasant Surprise
Yes, this is a fairly thin magazine, but it is packed with information taken from a lot of sources. I hadn't heard of this magazine until a few weeks ago, but I'm a fan. I don't have time to sit down and read a news periodical like the Economist, and I'm a bit hesitant of the politics behind some magazines. The Week seems to be pretty moderate in the news sources it pulls from, and there is usually a counterpoint to any point that's made. My favorite part is seeing what international journalists have to say about topical issues. While it's a fairly small magazine, I feel I get my money's worth because I read everything in it.
