Nihongo Journal - MECHA MECHA BENRI DA YO!
This is, hands down the best language publication for students of Japanese. You do have to have a handle on the language to benefit from it, however. If you are an intermediate to upper level student (1-kyuu, 2-kyuu) then you will really find this a great way to learn more and broaden your speaking ability on a number of topics. The most useful part is often the CD which might have interviews with people. I studied those over and over to acquire more native sounded phrasing, intonation and sentence order. I've been back for 1 year from a 3 1/2 year stay in Japan and look forward to getting this again.
Although this Magazine is outrageously expensive, it's great
This Magazine is great for anyone who knows the hiragana and katakana alphabet. There is a CD you play so that you know HOW a word is sounded, it has stories in there that is contemporary, not old and stupid. It even has at least one contemporary song in there that you could listen and follow along.
I think that if you do not know the simple hiragana or Katakana alphabet you may not like this magazine... because it does have some Kanji in there with the "helper" hiragana so you know how that Kanji is used or sounds like.
This magazine has helped at least two people I know that needs to have some "second language" qualification & were successful at getting it thanks to this magazine.
